Sixth Tata Nano catches fire!

A Tata Nano caught fire yesterday in Delhi; it is the sixth Nano to catch fire since the world’s cheapest car was first launched in India and third incident this year!

While Tata Motors has maintained that there is nothing wrong with the Nano, something they claimed has been proven only a few months ago (Tata says Nano is safe, plans Superdrive to assure customers), such incidents certainly aren’t going to inspire confidence in the mind of consumers.

This particular Tata Nano was not a new vehicle, as it has been the case with most burned Tata Nanos, instead this was a 3 month old Nano, which had clocked 34,000km and belonged to Supreme Court Lawyer, Ravinder Narayan.

Thankfully the only occupant in the car, driver Patrick John noticed the spark and fire immediately and managed to get out of the vehicle in time and no one was eventually hurt in the incident.

Here is a video report from ET NOW channel, showing the burning Tata Nano.

  1. is it just nano that is being targeted or is it TATA problem..as I have seen 2 indica’s on fire in space of 1 year…a few yrs back…

  2. I would have to say, it’s a little bit of both. Since people always suspected Tata to be cutting corners to manufacture Nano and thus safety being a perceived issue, such incidents are bound to be highlighted more than in case of other cars.

  3. I’d suggest that instead of the Nano, people can start buying the autorickshaw at least you can jump out if it ‘ignites’. Or Tata should consider that they manufacture the Nano without doors till they ‘really’ sort out the ‘burning issue’.
