Premier Rio SUV launched

One of India’s oldest automobile manufacturer, Premier Ltd. has reentered the passenger car segment with the launch of its compact SUV, Rio.
Priced between Rs. 5.25 and Rs. 5.95 lakh (ex-showroom Pune), Premier’s Rio is powered by a 1489cc turbo diesel engine producing 65PS of maximum power at 4000rpm and 152Nm of maximum torque at 2250rpm.
While the engine is based on Peugeot technology, suv itself is designed and manufactured by Chinese car maker, Zotye Group. Premier Ltd. would be importing the Rio as CKD (completely knocked down kits) and assembling them in its Chinchwad based manufacturing plant near Pune.
Speaking at the launch, Premier’s Chairman and Managing Director, Mr. Maitreya Doshi said, “We will be targeting fun-loving small families for their multi-purpose use with Rio. It is placed between the mid-sized passenger car and larger utility vehicles.”
