Maruti to showcase its new small car at Auto Expo
Maruti Suzuki is planning to showcase its new small car at the upcoming Auto Expo 2010.
Maruti’s new small concept car, codenamed YE3 is being developed by Indian engineers and would be showcased at Auto Expo to gauge public’s reaction, after which it might be put in to production.
Speaking to the media, Maruti Suzuki’s MD Shinzo Nakanishi said, “We are working on a new small car concept which we will showcase next month and depending on the reaction of the consumers we will put it to commercial production.”
Maruti YE3 is expected to replace Maruti’s and India’s most successful and largest selling car, Maruti 800. Which would be phased out from 11 metros next year, once the Bharat Stage IV emission norms come in to effect in those cities. “Our engineers have the capability to upgrade the M800 engine for Bharat Stage 4, but the corporate decision is that its too expensive and time-consuming to make business sense,” Mr. Nakanishi said. “So the M800 will not be available in those 11 cities where Bharat 4 will come in effect next year.”
Maruti is also working on the next generation Wagon R, code named YR9, which is expected to feature Maruti’s new KB series engine.
