BMW to enter used car market in India
BMW is all set to enter the used car market in India from the 1st of April 2010.
BMW India will introduce its global used-car program – BMW Premium Selection Program (BPS) in India. BPS will be showcased as a global brand and it makes sure that it guarantees the automaker’s standards in the used-car sector.
A BMW Premium Selection car must have an approved and documented vehicle history, pass a 72-technical point inspection that would be conducted by BMW-trained technicians, and must be less than 5 years old or less than 100,000km of mileage. The cars will be visually and technically refurbished before being put on sale. There will also be other premium services offered such as a comprehensive 24-month or 40,000-km warranty, 24-hour roadside assistance and individual financing. BMW hopes to generate around 30 per cent of their future sales in India through the used car market.
BMW would open the first showroom for this business in Chennai and then in Gurgaon in the second half of the year. These facilities will be stocked with pre-owned BMW cars that have been fully inspected by certified BMW technicians and will come with a limited warranty. BMW would however only accept the cars that were sold in the market after they launched their operations in India and therefore previously imported cars would not be accepted and sold through these dealerships.
BMW India also plans to leverage its existing dealer network to push its pre-owned car business. BMW currently has 17 dealer locations across the country, which will go up to 24 this year.
